Overwatch Beta Back Online with a Bang
Following a 2-month long break, Blizzard’s hero shooter, Overwatch is back online. New modes, new maps and the newly revealed player progression system are awaiting testers for the beta.
The newest game mode, titled ” Control”, has the two teams battling it out in a best-of-three, round-based skirmish to capture objectives, which will differ from each round. Control is playable on Overwatch’s two new maps, Lijang Tower (set in a busy Chinese metropolis) and Nepal (a monastery used by humans and Omnics alike)
There is also a Play vs. AI mode available now, allowing players to face off against a team of AI-controlled opponents with friends or solo.
Speaking of new content, the new progression system is entirely cosmetics-based, allaying fears that the game may contain a pay-to-win model. Time spent in Overwatch is rewarded by leveling up, which earns players Loot Boxes containing skins, emotes, animations, sprays, custom dialogue and even more. The in-game currency, Credits, can also be used to obtain the cosmetics.
The full patch notes and more details on the progressions system can be found on Blizzard’s official Overwatch blog.
We look forward to seeing you in the beta!
