Final Fantasy XV continues to be worked on. The latest update to land for this month is a mostly a minor one, an addition of one new recipe: “stinky tofu” (thank the survey answers from players of Taiwan for this), leaderboards for the Timed Quests, a new snapshot winner added into the game and various bug fixes. Additionally, a new outfit for Noctis will appear seperately on the Playstaion Store on May 30, pictured above.
The most peculiar of additions in the update however is a survey located in the Special section of the main menu. It simply asks you what sort of future content you are looking forward to, with high votes to be considered for future [...]
The upcoming remaster of the greatly underrated Final Fantasy XII is on track for its July release. It will be the first time for players outside Japan to try out the new job systems introduced in Final Fantasy XII International. The change to specific jobs for each character is a response to the ill-received License Board character progression that was way too open-ended resulting in players easily make not optimal character builds. The job system enables each character to have specific License Boards that is optimise for a specific character build, but also closes opportunities for hybrid builds.
Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age will add one more neat trick to job system by [...]
Final Fantasy XV may be flawed in some ways, but the systems they paid attention to make the roadtrip of the four boys were certainly brilliant. The idea that your companion Prompto takes photos for you instead of a dedicated photo mode (which was later added in an update) is one bold move that we never see in other games yet.
At the recent GDC, Square Enix shared how exactly they achieve this and it was all made using crafty AI. Led by Prasert “Sun” Prasertvithyakarn, the lead for AI and buddy system, he explains all the reasoning how it came to be and how he and his team implement it. Those pictures certainly were taken from Prompto’s point of view, and a [...]
Final Fantasy XV came with a little bonus game that’s supposedly to flesh out a few characters in the game. A King’s Tale: Final Fantasy XV was that game, where you play as Noctis’s father Regis as he recounted his journey to take the throne. Apparently the Kings of Lucis are all obliged to go for road trip with buddies to get the royal weapons.
Anyway, the game itself is a 2D beat-em-up. While not as tight or amazing as other 2D beat-em-ups out there, for the price of free and a window for more characters to be developed in the Final Fantasy XV universe, it’s worth a playthrough.
The game has only been made available for Asia recently, so grab [...]
Want to play as the other three bros of Noctis’s crew? Episode Gladiolus, the first substantial DLC for Final Fantasy XV is coming really soon and here’s a glimpse of what you will see when it’s released on March 28.
The DLC is being shown over at PAX East currently, and to celebrate that here’s a new trailer featuring the big man Gladio with his big sword. No sight of his favourite Noodle Cup here, it’s all serious stuff. He’s off in his own journey for a bit with Cor Leonis to undertake the trial of Gilgamesh, which explains why he went off alone in one part of the main game.
Also, controlling Gladio alone has also introduced a bit [...]
The long-promised PS4 Pro patch for Final Fantasy XV has arrived. It was initially promised that this patch will allow the game to go to the maximum of 60fps on the beefier PS4, and they managed to do just that. It’s not a perfect 60fps performance, but raising the framerate cap from 30 to 60 does look slightly better.
But it is to be noted that for more sensitive players who can see frame-pacing issues and unevenness to the framerate, this new mode will bug you. The folks at Digital Foundry are disappointed on the results, citing uneven framerates and the removal of the one mode where the issues are minimal (the original PS4 Pro Lite Mode). While it may not impressed [...]
