For Honor is out, and a lot of people are starting to compare it to fighting games. We share the same impression, after playing the closed beta.
But this interview between Tekken’s Katsuhiro Harada and Jason Vandenberghe, For Honor’s creative lead, discusses how similar For Honor feels to a typical fighting game, like Tekken.
Harada talks about how the combat system allows Yomi (the Japanese word that means “reading the mind of the opponent” i.e. mind reads), especially when it’s a fair 1v1 fight where it feels similar to a fighting game.
Vanderberghe also sheds light on some of For Honor’s design, like how the UI indicator for [...]
Warriors! This is your last call to try out For Honor before it’s official release on February 14. Pre-loading is now available on PS4, Xbox One and PC. It’s around 18GB of size so you might want to download it ahead of time. The beta starts February 9.
You can find the PC download either in the uPlay client or on Steam here. PS4 players can use the link here for the beta download.
To commemorate the beta, here’s one more trailer for the third-person brawler/fighting game, done in 360 degrees. A neat use of the tech, but it’s all in CGI. Check it out here:
Thankfully, the in-game visuals look phenomenal. You can read up on what we think [...]
Missed the closed beta? Don’t worry warriors, as everyone can join in the fight as For Honor will have an open beta on February 9 until February 12 with a new game mode: 4v4 Elimination (no respawns). That’s pretty close to the launch date which is on February 14, so the “open beta” is more likely a demo of the launch game that will be released in a matter of days afterwards. So it’s probably just an open beta in name only (hence the quote marks). We have seen this happened before with Ubisoft’s other game, Rainbow Six: Siege.
Speaking of Rainbow Six: Siege, it looks like For Honor will follow the business model of its slowly-but-surely [...]
When For Honor was first announced, the biggest thing selling point of this medieval brawler is how the combat works. It’s slow, it’s deliberate and has potential to be something awesome. Ubisoft may have themselves one of the most unique AAA release they are going to put out with this. It’s not open world, it doesn’t have a lot in common with bigger Ubi games, and will have a full single-player campaign alongside its main bread and butter multiplayer suite.
After spending around 5 hours in the closed beta, I walked away satisfied with For Honor, but it has a lot of kinks on its armour for me to recommend everyone to get this day one. If you can [...]
Ubisoft’s brutal 3rd-person brawler For Honor is gearing for a release and will go on closed beta on January 26. Like its name, you will get to fight for honor (and glory and probably various in-game rewards) as three different medieval factions: the Vikings, the Samurai and the Knights.
It’s a closed beta so you need an invite to participate in one. You could request for an invite by signing up here.
For Honor seems to be promising, but we can’t say for sure yet. The combat system is rad but how each match is played out might not be what we expected it to be. Just don’t write it off just yet and see if you can get into the closed beta and try [...]
For Honor, Ubisoft’s melee action combat game, made its debut last E3 with a show of multiplayer. This year, they have shown the single player campaign. All three factions, the Knights, the Samurai and the Vikings all have its own campaign that on first glance, looks like a grittier, tougher Dynasty Warriors.
Normal soldiers can be defeated with a few button presses, but tougher opponents will make you engage them in a one-on-one battle, involving switching stances (left, right, overhead), blocking and attacking at the right time. So it’s not just button mashing to victory.
